Tsuyoshi Suzuki

Tsuyoshi Suzuki was born in Tokyo in 1998 in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to the United States at the age of 19. He attended Eastern Illinois University as a studio art student. After graduating in 2021, he moved to New York City, currently working as an assistant painter at Matsuyama studio for a Japanese painter Tomokazu Matsuyama, and also pursuing his passion of being a full-time artist. 

His current focus" Drawing with rust on Steel" depicts the human body and its history. When Suzuki was exposed to a variety of classical painting techniques during his university days, he questioned why a lot of artists stick with an existing medium, and why not invent a new way of painting. This is how his journey of finding his medium started, and in his senior year at university. Since then, he has been working mainly with rust and continues to do so. His work with rust reflects his strong desire to be an original and one-of-a-kind artist.

Tsuyoshi’s rust work makes our histories in the object visible which is fairly invisible in daily

lives. By putting rust into art, Tsuyoshi wants to share the beauty that he sees in rust. It is also an expression of the diversity of beauty, and the works depicted by rust express the coexistence of various values today.
